Known as the patron of craftsmen and architects, Ptah was believed to have brought the universe into existence through the power of his thoughts and words. This statue, carved from sandstone and located in the great temple of Ptah in Memphis—modern-day Mit Rahina—exemplifies the grandeur of Egypt’s religious devotion during the reign of Ramesses II (1279–1213 BCE) of the 19th Dynasty.
